After you have completed the Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas (often called the “tech. cert.” or 2365), either at Erudite or elsewhere, you must demonstrate your ability in the workplace: this is what the NVQ portfolio is intended to demonstrate.
Before you get started, we will invite you to an introduction session to explain everything involved with the qualification so that you can be certain it’s the right step for you before enrolling with us.
The assessments involve an assessor visiting you on-site on several occasions usually over a minimum period of six months (maximum of 24 months) to collect evidence in the form of photographs, video evidence, expert witness testimony and records of professional discussions.
It is up to you to ensure you are working with a qualified electrician on the dates the assessor visits, demonstrating a range of work on each occasion to cover all aspects of the NVQ requirements.
Both you and the assessor will need to perform written records of your work and present this in a completed portfolio of evidence, demonstrating your competency in the workplace.
Once you have completed your portfolio, your final hurdle will be undertaking the AM2 at a NET centre, allowing JIB to recognise you as fully qualified and satisfying the requirements for a JIB gold card.
Which NVQ is the right one for you?
If you have qualified with your Level 2 & Level 3 Diplomas but do not have more than 5 years’ experience as a practicing electrician and are intending to complete the AM2 trade skills test then the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment, course code 501/1605/8, is the appropriate route to qualification. This may also require an additional bridging unit(s) which your NVQ assess can discuss with you before you enrol.
The assessment process covers a flexible period between 6 months to 2 years (this is dependent on your ability to identify and work on those jobs which will support your evidence of competence across all areas of the NVQ) and costs £1400+VAT = £1680 (Costs may be higher if you have additional units or qualifications to complete – our NVQ assessor can discuss this with you at an Introduction session)
We do not collect a deposit before the Introduction session with our NVQ assessor. After this a deposit of £400 secures your place and payment plans are available for the remaining cost.
You must provide evidence of your successful completion of Level 2 & Level 3 Diplomas in Electrical Installation. These can either be City & Guilds or EAL awarded.
We are currently operating a waiting list for the NVQ assessments; to get your name on the list please contact us by email.
We have taken care to ensure candidates can take holidays whilst on our Weekend and Evening Courses due to the long-term, regular nature of classroom sessions in this format. Therefore, we have set pre-planned dates on which students will not be required to attend class – please contact us for the list.
